Can advanced replication be managed
without the overhead of using Enterprise Manager? I've heard that it can be administrated from the command line, as long as the databases in question have the advanced replication option built. |
Advanced replication can be fully setup and managed without Enterprise Manager. However for this purpose it is necessary to write or to find plenty of scripts and to study the Replication Management API.
Generic Oracle's documentation includes a good guide to create Advanced Replication environment. An extremely useful script, printing the replication transactions and working much faster than OEM, can be found on metalink.oracle.com (Note:131279.1)
In addition, some people recommend the book named 'Oracle Built-In Packages' (Feurestein, Dye & Beresniewicz, O'Reilly Press, 1998) containing lots of explanation about using the 'command line' (actually calls to packages) for managing Replication.
